It's Been a While

Since I posted last, a long while.

No good excuses, just haven't been in the mood to take the time to write.

But as I was reading Jessica Sprague's blog today I was reminded of the importance of simply documenting everyday things.

She said "So. What have you written down? And just remember before you think to yourself, “I didn’t do anything interesting or worth writing down.” (you know who you are): How much do you wish that your grandmother or great-grandmother had taken a few minutes on a random Tuesday and jotted a few things? Sometimes I get reminded of this, and get writing again."

Never really thought of it that way before. I mean how cool would it be to be able to take a peek back into your parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents lives. Maybe this will be the push I need to try and write everyday, to tell all of my stories, both big and small. So here it goes:

In preparation for Christmas, I have been trying to save a little money and make some decorations for Brett and I to use (we don't have very many being that this is our first Christmas that we get to decorate our home since we have been dating - last year we didn't decorate since we spent the entire month of december away from our apartment). Well anyways, I've been perusing blogs and scrapbooking websites for cute and simple decoration ideas, and like many people, I came across Ali Edwards idea to make button covered styrofoam trees. Loved it. Couldn't wait to make one for myself. I have a ton of buttons, I love them but I don't use them very often, and I found a styrofoam tree at the dollar store around the corner from our house, perfect, just what I needed.
So I went home, decided on the colors I would use - Red, Green, and White- and got to work, took about an hour, but I loved how it came out. Couldn't wait to put it up. So the day after Thanksgiving I put it out on the mantle, first thing, just because I could.
Well fast forward to yesterday, the first day that Gaz (our 7 month old puppy) has been left alone for an extended period of time since some of the Christmas decorations have gone up. And what do I find when I get home? A sparkaly garland (previously on the mantle) now on the living room floor, and a button tree, eaten at both ends laying in the backyard.
So what have we learned? The mantle is no longer a safe puppy-proof place for things, and puppys love cute christmas decorations just as much as I do.

The worst part is that I didn't get any photos of the tree before it was chewed.

Note to Self: take photos of projects as soon as I finish them.

Hope you all have a good day! and don't forget to record your stories, even the small ones.

Monday, Monday

Today I'm Thankful For:
1. Comfy Couches
2. Chocolate
3. Relaxation

Just another ordinary day, went to work all day, bought some art supplies, and came home to a completed guillotine (just a Halloween decoration), and dinner just coming out of the oven. I love the fact that Brett can cook, and I love coming home, and just being able to sit down and eat. nothing Better than a boyfriend that can cook.

Today's the day to start blogging

Today I'm Thankful For:
1. A Handy Boyfriend
2. Smiley Babies
3. The Store only being open for 5 hours

So I got my copy of Ali Edwards' latest book,"Life Artist" yesterday, and what can I say, I love it. Totally inspired in so many different ways, like creating this blog as a way to practice my writing skills, expressing myself, and telling my stories - even the everyday stories. I cannot express enough how excited I am to get going on some of the projects that this book inspired. I would definitely suggest it to any and all scrapbookers out there, along with both of her other books, totally worth every penny, packed with ideas, and gorgeous photos for inspiration.
